John gives reassurance to those who truly belong to Christ by telling them that it is impossible for them to be led astray by false doctrine because they have the anointing of God in them that taught them the truth through John and by which also they remain in it. John also says that the ones who left to follow the error, did so under the plan of God so that God could reveal that they were never from out of the Lord.
