3 John

III John is in the section of Jewish literature which includes Hebrews through Revelation. It is written by the Apostle John to a man by the name of Gaius. John will be dealing with three people in this letter: Gaius, Diotrephes, and Demetrius.
The letter was written around 90-95 A.D. from Ephesus at the end of John's life.
In II John, John dealt with a wonderful Christian woman who showed the love of Christ even in opening her home to false teachers. In that letter, John told her to not let them into her house nor to say "Greetings" to them.
In III John, John encourages Gaius to continue to show hospitality to the brothers teaching the truth even though the dictator Diotrephes threatened to kick him out of the church if he continued to do so.
In this letter, we will study the encouragement to Gaius and the indictments against Diotrephes as well as the example of Demetrius.
